May 08, 2017 - 20:17

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Dozens of schoolteachers in the ranks of Talibaninfo-icon insurgents are fighting against government security forces in central Logar province, local officials claimed on Monday.

Logar governor’s spokesman, Salim Saleh, alleged these teachers worked half day with the government, pocketed salaries and then fought alongside Taliban against security forces the rest of the day.

To substantiate his claim, Saleh said even today morning one teacher was killed during a clash with security forces in Padkhab Shana area on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital.

He said the clash left two militants dead and one of them was later identified as teacher at Usmania High School. He identified the slain teacher as Naqibullah.

A resident of Padkhab Shana area, Ahmad Zia, said four people suffered casualties in the early morning clash between security forces and Taliban gunmen. He said the dead included a teacher at the area high school.

Logar Educationinfo-icon Department spokesman Shapur Arab confirmed the incident that comes about a month after security forces raided a house in Mohammad Agha district and killed several insurgents including a schoolteacher.
