315 Samangan teachers receive land plots

315 Samangan teachers receive land plots

Jun 11, 2015 - 18:05

AIBAK (Pajhwok): At least 315 teachers have been issued ownership documents of residential plots in northern Samangan province, the educationinfo-icon director said.

Abdul Wahab Zafari said the plots were distributed to teachers who had been in the field for more than 10 years.

According to the education department, there are more than 2,100 teachers in the province.

Zafari said they planned to distribute more plots to deserving teachers in the provincial capital and districts.

Aibak City mayor Noor Ahmad Sami said the 315 plots were being demarcated northeast of the provincial capital.

He said each teacher was required to pay only 57,000 afghanis in two installments for each plot.

Sami added so far 1,361 plots had been distributed in the locality, with 38 percent going to teachers.

Mohammad Akba, a teacher in Aibak city, said: “In my 35 years service as teacher, it is for the first time the education department has given me such a big prize.”

Teachers in dozens of schools in Kabulinfo-icon and other provinces have been on strike since last Monday, demanding salary increment and residential plots.

These teachers allege that President Ashraf Ghani is dragging feet on his promises with teachers since taking office in late September.
